THE GRANNY MYSTIQUE celebrates relationships between
grandmothers and their grands. Marguerite Langstaff writes about nine buttons which grandmothers push to help their grands
grow to be successful, happy and productive adults. These are the nine granny wisdoms.
There's no mystery about it.
This book makes a wonderful addition to the family bookshelf and a welcome gift for moms and grandmothers. It is a gift from
the heart.
CONGRATULATIONS TO SALLY'S GRANDSON CHRIS IN NEBRASKA! A GRANDMOTHER'S DREAM. CHRIS has been awarded a
partial scholarship to college. He will attend Shadron State College in Nebraska. Chris plans to be a radiologist. His
scholarship is based on just that...grades and scholarship. High five, Chris. We're really proud.
This day our Matthew
was honored at Heritage High School as Student of the Month. We were sooooo proud to attend the award ceremony and see OUR
Matt receive the award, introduce his family, and actually hug his science teacher. YES. That's our Matt. If some of
you have been wondering why I've not been on the website recently please understand that my computer crashed. At least that's
what I THINK happened. One day it just wouldn't work. The little hourglass thing-a-ma-jig just disappeared and there was
no arrow. I called everyone...well, almost everyone! Nothing helped. Finally I carried it across the street to my local
computer expert who said that it was broken (no big surprise since it wouldn't work) and that the computer was so old that
it wasn't worth fixing. That, too, was no surprise. After my 50th high school reunion in Kentucky someone sent 250 pictures
on a disk...but the computer was so old I couldn't even see them. Back to the crisis at hand, however. I probably should
have called my friend Bob's grandson Brian. I understand he is a computer whiz and probably could have figured it out immediately.
Anyway...I ended up ORDERING A NEW COMPUTER BY TELEPHONE. Tis a beautiful sight...a thin screen and a shiny new keyboard.
The broader I get the smaller the machines. This must be a twenty first century phenonemon.
That word was a long one,
and it makes me think of Ryan who went for five rounds in yesterday's spelling bee. Ryan missed the word ELABORATE. He thought
he did well, though and so did I. He simply left out the letters o and r.
Kelly and her family took me skiing.
I was an on-looker because these Colorado mountains are too much for this oldster when they're covered with snow. Kelly's
in the second grade and read Pippi Longstocking while we were together. She is a wonderful age...so beautiful with her red
hair and blue eyes. She's very proud to have some teeth in, some teeth out, and others coming in while others are clearly
loose and on their way out. Kelly is not only a wonderful skier herself, but she teaches her brother William with the skill
of any graduate professional. I believe that little people communicate with little people better than any of us educators
ever can.
Peter is home with the flu...and not just any flu. It's influenza A. We just found out today. That's the
one which Papa and I took shots for, and since none of Peter's family had shots they all have to take some medication now
to ward off the flu.
Tomorrow I'm speaking to a book club about THE GRANNY MYSTIQUE. I think I'll ask what their grands
are doing currently. David spent this weekend on a church retreat. His mom had to buy sacks of candy, because David and
his friend were going to play poker on the retreat (not for money, but for candy).
Boo is taking dancing lessons
three times a week and swimming lessons once a week. She is so very graceful, and I hope she'll be having a recital soon.
May
you each have a wonderful Valentine Day. If you are reading this and thinking, I don't have a Valentine...then waste not
one more minute...pick up the phone and find a Valentine. Plan a dinner, buy a heart-shaped box of candy, glue lace to a
card, bake a cookie. Take action now...you'll gladden someone's heart and make a memory to last the year.
With love
to you all. Your editor. Margie
LISE'S POEM (Lise is in the 3rd grade.)
GRANDMOTHERS
Grandmas show
love from above In the air they soar through They never get bad thoughts about you.
They're always showing they
care for you.
They always respect you.
They're always bringing games, They are never the same. They are
always having fun with you, A ton of fun.
They are always baking good treats for you.
They are always telling
stories That can never be told. They are as good as gold.
Grandmas are special wherever you are, Whether
you are in China or Spain. Wherever you are they will love you. You will love them forever And you will never forget
them Whether they are great Grandmas They will still love you,
Who ever you are.
THANK YOU, LISE.
Another
unbelievably sensitive and sensational Christmas present came from Kelly who is in the second grade and who has too many talents
to enumerate. I'll share it, too, with you.
GRANDMOTHER'S PRAYER by Kelly
May my Grandmother be well loved
and happy on this day.
May she find laughter in every way.
May she know she's in our thoughts.
May she
know we love her lots.
Keep her safe and in your sight.
Bless her with your sacred light.
So,
Keep
her singing a happy song
And watch over her all day long.
